About
A Life of Music & Kintsugi
Who is Kat?
Kat Kusumori (also known as Kat McDowell) is a singer-songwriter and certified Kintsugi artist whose journey reflects the beauty of embracing imperfections. Born in Japan and raised in New Zealand, she grew up between two cultures, which shaped her unique "Ocean Pop" music style—a blend of Japanese and English lyrics.
Like Kintsugi, life has had its cracks for Kat. She faced struggles with self-worth in her youth, and her music career had its ups and downs. But just as Kintsugi transforms broken pottery into something even more beautiful, she learned to embrace her challenges and turn them into strengths.
Kat studied under Kintsugi master Showzi Tsukamoto in Japan and became certified in this traditional art. Today, alongside her music, she teaches Kintsugi to help others find healing and resilience. Whether you’re learning Kintsugi for self-reflection, creativity, or simply to fix something broken, her workshops are about more than just repairing pottery—they’re about finding beauty in imperfection and celebrating the stories behind every crack.
